However, all of that innovation and technology becomes useless if you have lost your keys or don’t know the key combination to get into your safe. Now you have nothing more than a giant puzzle box, keeping you from being able to get at the items you consider to be most valuable to you. Talk about a nightmare.

The Chances Are It Can Happen to You

Before you start shaking your head, chastising those who would be stupid enough to lose their keys or to forget their keycode, keep in mind that there are a number of people who are reading this article who are in need of a means to get into their safe. Maybe you are one of them.

The reality is that people lose stuff. It happens. You may have had your safe key on the keychain that had your car and house keys, and they may have been stolen. Maybe you lost them in some kind of catastrophe, or your house was broken into. There are a number of reasons why somebody may have lost their keys.

In addition, it is quite common for people to forget what keycodes they have programmed. This is especially true if they have recently changed the Keiko. You may have become so accustomed using a certain code, that the new one has slipped your mind. What to Do If You Can’t Get Into Your Sentrysafe?

Now that we have dispensed with the finger-pointing, it is time to address how you can get into your safe. Outside of calling a professional or taking measures that may result in permanent damage to your safe, there are a few options you should try first.

#1 Contact the Manufacturer

Where you always want to begin in a situation like this is by placing a call to the manufacturer. What you may find is that you can acquire a brand-new key by being able to provide your serial and model numbers.

They may also have a failsafe code you can enter to reprogram in a new code to gain access to your safe. Sometimes there is a reset code that is available, that it may be that you have to have the current code to use the reset code. That may be of no help to you at all. However, there may be a code they can give you that will give you access right away. It doesn’t hurt to try that first.

#2 The Magnet

If that fails, then your next option is to try a rare earth magnet. It should have at least 125 pounds of pull force, something that should cost you somewhere between $20 and $50. It should be disc-shaped, much like a hockey puck looks. This will help you to ensure that you are getting the right amount of force.

Put the magnet inside the sock. This makes it a little easier to slide across the surface of the safe. Now, hold the magnet in the top left corner of the safe. What you are looking for is something called the solenoid, which is usually in the top left corner. When activated, this brings the lock mechanism. By holding your magnet there, it will trigger the solenoid.

Slowly began to slide the magnet across the top corner as you pull the handle. What you are likely to find is that the magnet will activate the solenoid. If you are pulling on the door handle when it is activated, the door should open for you.

#3 Use a Nail File

#4 Use a Paper Clip

You may feel that it is a Hollywood idea that you can open the lock with a paperclip, but the truth is that you can. You want to begin by straightening the paperclip but leaving one part of it bent at the top. Pitch that top portion closed so that the top part is about 0.25 inches in length. Using pair of pliers to help pinch it. Now, using that end that you pinched, slide it into the keylock.

The pinched and should be at a 45° angle to the rest of the paperclip, giving it an L shape. Now, jiggle the paperclip inside the lock. Once you begin to hear the pins release, begin to turn the paperclip until you are able to release the lock. It will often be that you need to get for pins to release to enter the safe.

What If That Doesn’t Work?

If you find that you are still unable to open the Sentrysafe by using one of these two measures, then you are really left with two options. The first is to hire a locksmith to do the job for you. If you have a small safe that you can transport to the locksmith, then take it into their shop. They are likely to be able to open the safe for you, and you don’t have to worry about them knowing where you have your safe located in your home.

If it is a large safe that is difficult to move, then you may have to hire a locksmith to come to your house. While you may not like the option of someone knowing your safe is that. It is a lot better than not being able to gain access into your safe.

If this is not an option for you, then you may have to consider some form of brute force to gain access. You can use a drill to bore a hole into the safe where you can release the locking mechanism. Understand that not all safes may afford you this opportunity. Many are made to be drill proof, meaning that your attempt to circumvent the security may not work.

If it is a smaller size safe, you may be able to just break it open. Either by using a crowbar or dropping it off the roof of your home, you are likely to break open the safe. It may be of no good to you after that, but at least you are inside your safe.
